Repair the tooth in the shade it already is

A Toronto filling rebuilds the part of a tooth that decay, a chip or wear has taken, so you can bite down on that side again. We use only composite resin and match it to your own enamel, so nothing grey shows when you laugh.

Before we start, you’ll see the tooth on screen through an intraoral camera and a digital x-ray, so you know what we’re fixing and why.

How does a filling work at Canary Dental?

01

Look & Explain

We take a digital x-ray, show you the tooth, and tell you whether a filling will do the job or the tooth needs more.

02

Numb & Clean

We numb the tooth and gum fully, then clear away the decay or the old filling.

03

Layer & Shape

We build the composite in thin layers, set each one with a curing light, and shape it to your bite.

04

Polish & Check

We polish the surface and check how your teeth meet, so nothing feels high when you close.

When Toronto dental fillings are the right fix

  • A cavity spotted at your cleaning and exam or on an x-ray
  • A small chip or crack along a tooth’s edge
  • A tooth worn thin near the gumline
  • An older filling with a cracked or leaking edge
  • A spot that catches floss or holds on to food

When decay reaches the nerve, a root canal comes first. When most of the tooth is gone, a dental crown protects it better than a large filling, and we’ll say which one we’d choose at your first look.

Swapping out old silver fillings

We replace silver (amalgam) fillings with tooth-coloured composite when one has cracked, worn down, started leaking at the edge or has decay underneath. You can also swap one because you’d like the tooth to match its neighbours.

A sound silver filling can stay where it is, and we’ll say so at your exam.

Comfort built in for kids and adults

Children get the same composite fillings adults do, and our waiting area has games and toys to start the visit on a light note. In the chair, you can settle in with a weighted blanket, headphones, and your pick of Netflix, Prime, YouTube or Spotify.

Nitrous sedation is there if you’d like it, and you stay awake the whole time.

Frequently Asked Questions

K
L

What is a dental filling?

A filling replaces the part of a tooth lost to decay, a chip or wear. Every filling at Canary Dental is tooth-coloured composite resin that we shade to match the teeth around it.

K
L

How much does a dental filling cost?

The cost of a filling depends on the tooth and how many of its surfaces the filling covers. Canary Dental gives you a clear estimate before treatment and can submit the claim to your insurer for you.

K
L

How long does a filling appointment take?

Most Toronto dental fillings take one visit at Canary Dental. We numb, clean, fill and polish the tooth in the same appointment.

K
L

Does getting a filling hurt?

We numb the tooth and gum before we begin, so most people feel pressure and vibration rather than pain. Mild sensitivity to cold for a few days afterward is common and fades on its own.

When can I eat after a filling?

You can eat once the numbness wears off, usually within a few hours. Composite sets hard under the curing light before you leave Canary Dental, so there's no waiting for the filling itself.

Can you replace my silver fillings?

Yes. Canary Dental replaces silver (amalgam) fillings with composite when one has cracked, worn, leaked or has decay beneath it, or when you'd like the colour to match. If yours is sound, we'll say so.

Does insurance cover fillings?

Most dental plans cover part of the cost of a filling, and the share and yearly maximum vary by plan. You don't need insurance to book with Canary Dental, and we'll walk you through the cost up front either way.

What if a filling falls out?

Call or text us, and we'll find you a time quickly. Canary Dental keeps room in the schedule for urgent visits and sees first-time patients in an emergency too.
